National Juried Art Exhibit Opens June 8
STRASBURG -- The annual National Juried Art Exhibition of the Lancaster County Art Association opens Sunday, June 8, with a reception from 1 to 5 PM. The works accepted into the exhibit were chosen by this year's juror, Australian/American artist and writer Denise Green, who also chose pieces for awards from those accepted. Cash awards of $3,000 will be presented to the artists whose pieces were chosen. Awards will be presented at 2 PM on June 8. The Juried Exhibition is sponsored by James S. Gibson, Senior Vice President/Investment Officer with the Gibson/Luckenbill Investment Consulting Group of Wachovia Securities, LLC. The exhibit will continue until July 17.

Denise Green was born in Melbourne in 1946. A resident of New York City since 1968, she first received public recognition in New York in the 1978 New Image Painting exhibition at the Whitney Museum. Since 1972 her work has been the subject of 90 solo exhibitions and has been included in over 100 group exhibitions. A retrospective exhibition of her work was launched in New York at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center/Museum of Modern Art and toured the U.S., Australia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Germany between 1999 and 2006.

In addition to authoring Motonymy in Contemporary Art: A New Paradigm, Green's critical writings have appeared in Arts Magazine, Art Press (Paris), Art Monthly Australia and Art and Australia. Since 1997 she has been a visiting critic on the Graduate Faculty at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Her works are in 38 international public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and the Albertina Museum in Vienna.

Original works in five media categories submitted by artists eighteen and older were eligible for submission to the Juried Exhibition. The five media categories are Oil & Acrylic, Watercolor, Photography, Sculpture & Ceramic, and Other Media. Applications to have work accepted into the exhibit arrived from artists in twenty-one states as well as from many Pennsylvania artists.

The Lancaster County Art Association is the County's oldest arts organization. The Association's National Juried Exhibition is the County's only multiple media national juried art exhibition. The LCAA is located at 149 Precision Ave. in Strasburg. Regular hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 1 to 5 PM. Admission to the exhibit is free and the public is invited. Refreshments will be served at the opening reception.
