Ephrata Artist Takes First Place in the Watercolor Category in the Lancaster County Art Association’s National Juried Exhibition
STRASBURG
-- Twenty-four awards were presented to artists for artwork in five media categories at the Lancaster County Art Association’s National Juried Exhibit which opened with a reception on Sunday, June 8. Local artists were the recipients of several of the awards with Ephrata’s Diane Goble winning First Place for her dramatic rendition of flames in watercolor. Best of Show was won by Brooklyn artist Tiana Peterson for her sculptural piece composed of an arrangement of red cloth bound books on the architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The arrangement was evocative of cantilevered buildings designed by Wright.
Juror for the show this year was Australian/American artist and writer Denise Green. A resident of New York City since 1968, Green first received public recognition in New York in the 1978 New Image Painting exhibition at the Whitney Museum. Since 1972 her work has been the subject of 90 solo exhibitions and has been included in over 100 group exhibitions. A retrospective exhibition of her work was launched in New York at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center/Museum of Modern Art and toured the U.S., Australia, Central and Eastern Europe, and Germany between 1999 and 2006.
Since 1997 she has been a visiting critic on the Graduate Faculty at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Her works are in 38 international public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC, and the Albertina Museum in Vienna.
The LCAA’s Juried Exhibition is Lancaster County's only multiple media national juried art exhibition. It is sponsored by James S. Gibson, Senior Vice President/Investment Officer with the Gibson/Luckenbill Investment Consulting Group of Wachovia Securities, LLC. The exhibit will continue until July 17.
Original works submitted by artists eighteen and older were eligible for submission. Applications to have work accepted into the exhibit were received from artists in twenty-one states as well as from many Pennsylvania artists. The LCAA is located at 149 Precision Ave. in Strasburg. Regular hours are Wednesday to Sunday from 1 to 5 PM. Admission to the exhibit is free and the public is invited.
