Community Enjoys Annual SECA Fest
By Jeanne Ruczhak-Eckman
QUARRYVILLE -- Once again the fireworks display was the highlight for the annual SECA Fest Saturday night. The annual community-oriented event was held Saturday, July 12 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Memorial Park in Quarryville. Various community organizations had carnival-like stands.

The Quarryville Fire Company promoted the reflective address numbers. The SECA Sharks had a ring toss in which no one went away empty handed and some were even lucky enough to win a huge shark - inflatable shark that is! There were also pony rides and inflatable rides. The inflatable rides included the Titanic, an obstacle course, a laser tag ride, and naturally a moon bounce.

Jeff Minnich, of Solanco Video and president of the Southern Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce, promoted the Southern End Community Night at the Barnstormers. Baseball enthusiasts could time their throws in an inflatable batting cage.

Ducks were on sale this year at SECA Fest as well. Not real live ducks. Schreiber Pediatric ducks! Jan Wagner, of Prudential Homesale Services, manned a booth selling ducks for the Shreiber Pediatric Rehab Center's 20th Annual Rubber Duckie Race. The Race and festival will be Sunday, July 27 in Lancaster County Central Park from 2 - 6 p.m. The race begins at 5 p.m. Approximately 25,000 rubber duckies will float down the Conestoga River.

This year there was a special booth at which funds raised will benefit local auctioneer Larry Whyte. Whyte, active in so many ways in the community, was critically injured in a car accident and is still recuperating.
