Solanco Young Farmers Hold No-Till Day
QUARRYVILLE
– Solanco Young Farmers will hold a Southern Lancaster County No-Till Field Day on Tuesday, July 10 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at John and A. K. Stoltzfus’s Farm, 216 Peach Bottom Rd.

John and AK have been farming no-till for a long time and are eager to share their story and help other farmers learn and see how to improve their own no-tilling experiences. Last fall they planted several t cover crops such as crimson clover, hairy vetch, ryegrass and cereal rye. This spring they no-tilled corn and tobacco in these fields. Come and see for yourself how they are growing and then ask questions.

Speakers and topics will include: Steve Groff, local farmer and no-till enthusiast sharing his tips and advice on being a successful long term no-tiller. Grant Troop, Penn State No-till Agronomist discussing crop establishment and fertility programs. Dr Dave Johnson, Penn State Landisville Farm Manager speaking on selecting effective herbicide programs for no-till corn production. This meeting will have one core and one category pesticide credit, so bring your pesticide number along. Also farmers are encouraged to bring along samples of problem weeds, insects and disease for analysis and discussion. Representatives from Pequea Planter, Triple H Equipment and others will be on site to answer your questions. The no-till transplanter, which was used this spring on 22 farms to plant tobacco and pumpkins, will also be there. This single row unit which can be pulled by horses, mules or tractors planted over 55 acres all across the County. There is no cost for this program and lunch will be provided.
