QUARRYVILLE --
The Solanco School District will sponsor two public meetings featuring Cheri Lovre, a nationally-renowned presenter on grief and trauma. The meetings will be held at Solanco High School on Sunday at 7 p.m., and Monday at 7 p.m. Parents, students and all community members are invited to attend.
The Solanco School District is providing our community with support and assistance following this week’s tragedy at the Amish schoolhouse in Nickel Mines. Lovre has a tremendous amount of experience assisting people affected by tragedy. She has worked with the students and the community of Columbine, following the shootings in that Colorado school. She has also worked with schools, students and parents in New York following the September 11 attacks, and also with survivors of the tsunami in the Pacific and with victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Lovre is familiar with our area, having worked with the Red Lion School District in York County following violent incidents in 2000 and 2003. She has over 30 years of experience in the field of grief and trauma. Because of her range of experience, she has developed a philosophy and a specific approach toward the unique requirements of trauma survivors. Her focus has been working with schools in the aftermath of student and staff death or other tragedies.
She is the Founder and Director of Crisis Management Institute. She has worked extensively on developing materials for crisis response teams. She has also helped states create state-wide teams to help respond to schools in the aftermath of major catastrophic events, such as shootings, natural and human-caused disasters, multiple death accidents and other events.
She has responded to major incidents on behalf of NOVA (the National Organization of Victim Assistance) and
FEMA (Federal Emergency Management) in response to the Oregon flood of 1996,
responding to hostage situations, missing children, death of the
leadership team of a corporation in a plane crash.
Lovre has also created the Flight Team concept (school-based crisis response teams) which is used in many states by
school districts, International Schools and in Australia.
