Amish School Gunman Not A Suspect In Other Cases
By Jeanne Ruczhak-Eckman
LANCASTER
-- The Amish school gunman is not a suspect in other cases, despite an incredible number of calls into State Police suggesting other links.

"He is not a suspect in any sexual assault case," said Sgt. Douglas J. Burig, Criminal Investigation Unit, PA State Police (PSP).

State Police provided this un-dated picture of Charles Carl Roberts IV.Charles Carl Roberts IV took 10 girls hostage at the West Nickel Mines Amish School on White Oak Road, killing five of them before taking his own life on Monday, October 2. Roberts took numerous weapons and tools into the school with him. He had in his possession, a 9 mm Springfield Arms semiautomatic pistol, Browning Arms 12-gauge shotgun Ruger bolt-action 30.06 with ammo in a case, Black range bag with 600 rounds of ammunition, Two cans of smokeless powder, Stun gun, two knives, a bucket and a change of clothes, earplugs, a hammer, a hacksaw, pliers, wire, eyebolts, clear tape, a bag of nails, chains, clamps, an two tubes of KY Jelly, said PSP Commissioner Col. Jeffrey Miller at a press conference last week.

The State Police have received numerous calls linking Roberts to several unsolved crimes, including some of a sexual nature. At this point, Police have no reason to believe that Roberts ever committed the crimes in question. Sgt. Burig did confirm, however, that a DNA sample was taken from Roberts. In the course of their investigation, Police also searched his home.

Roberts had stated that he had molested two young relatives 20 years ago. Police have interviewed both women and neither recall any such event. This conflict does not, according to Sgt. Burig, affect the investigation. Police are tying up loose ends and expect to close this case soon.
