Pequea Boat Ramp to Close for Repairs
ALLENTOWN
--
PPL’s Pequea Boat Ramp at Lake Aldred in Lancaster County will be closed from Sept. 15 to Memorial Day weekend in 2009.
The boat ramp will be open through Sept. 1 and the weekends of Sept. 6-7 and Sept. 13- 14. Because of construction, boaters must use River Hill Road to access the boat ramp on Sept. 6-7 and Sept. 13-14. There will be no access to the boat ramp and parking area during the weekdays.
“We regret any inconvenience closing the boat ramp may cause, but public safety is our top priority,” said Chris Porse, manager of PPL’s Holtwood hydroelectric plant.
The ramp is being closed on Sept. 15 so that the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation can complete a construction project to replace the bridge that crosses the ramp facility and the Pequea Creek.
PennDOT will be removing the existing one-lane steel truss bridge and replacing it with a new two-lane concrete and steel beam structure that meets current standards. Changes to the parking lot entrance will be made as a result of the bridge replacement, along with relocation of one of the boat launch ramps.
Boaters, fishermen and duck hunters can access Lake Aldred at the York Furnace Boat Ramp on Route 425 in York County.
Lake Aldred is an 8-mile-long body of water formed by the Holtwood Dam and hydroelectric plant on the lower Susquehanna River. PPL owns and operates the dam and recreational facilities on both sides of the lake, including boat ramps at Pequea and York Furnace.
PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), headquartered in Allentown, Pa., controls more than 11,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the United States, sells energy in key U.S. markets and delivers electricity to about 4 million customers in Pennsylvania and the United Kingdom.
