Deadline for Absentee Ballot Applications Approaches
HARRISBURG -- Encouraging Pennsylvanians near and far to exercise their right to vote, Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro A. Cortés reminded absentee-ballot applicants that their request forms must be completed, signed, and received by their county board of elections no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. In Lancaster County, the board of elections is located at 150 N. Queen Street in Lancaster City.

“Voting is an important right,” Cortés said, “and we want to ensure every Pennsylvanian has the opportunity to exercise that right, even if they are physically unable to head to the polls on Election Day.”

Some exceptions apply to military, overseas and emergency absentee voters. More information about the deadlines for these absentee voters is available through VotesPA.com.

Pennsylvanians who are voting for the first time are required to provide a copy of one form of identification with their application or ballot, such as a driver’s license or current bank statement that includes the name and address of the voter. A complete list of approved forms of identification is available through VotesPA.com

The absentee ballot application form can be downloaded HERE. In addition to basic voter registration information, the applicant will be asked to specify a reason for applying to vote absentee.

Traditionally, active, deployed members of the military, Pennsylvania students attending out-of-state colleges or universities, and individuals with illnesses or disabilities vote via absentee ballot. A complete list of eligible applicants is available through the Web site.

A registered absentee voter can designate someone else who can deliver his or her absentee application and ballot if he or she is physically unable to do so. Certification of Designated Agents forms are also available through VotesPA.com.

Absentee ballots must be received by the voter’s county board of elections by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 18, either in person or by mail.
