House Republican Caucus Applauds Senate Republicans on Health Care Proposal
HARRISBURG
-- Every Pennsylvanian has the opportunity to access quality, affordable health care under a health care package introduced by Senate Republicans entitled HealthNetPA, stated House Republican Health Care Task Force Chairs, Reps. Kathy Watson (R-Bucks) and Scott Boyd (R-Lancaster).
The $100 million Senate plan differs dramatically from the $1.4 billion Rendell/House Democrat government-run health care proposal which includes new taxes and more spending, while covering only a small fraction of the uninsured.
"We worked with various groups on developing the House Republican plan over the past year and are pleased to see that the Senate plan incorporates several pieces of legislation from the House Republican plan including expanding the use of health care clinics to increase access; HSA tax credits; Mini-Cobra for small employers; and incentives for healthy living," said Watson.
Ninety-two percent of Pennsylvanians are already insured. That is well above the national average. Why jeopardize the care for the over 11 million Pennsylvanians who are receiving high quality health care already to create a new, unproven government-run system, which won't even address the problem? The real issue is health care cost and accessibility.
"The House and Senate Republican plans work to cover all of the uninsured, truly get at the health care cost drivers, and keep insurance in the private sector which keeps costs down through marketplace competition," said Boyd.
The Democrat health care plan will result in increased government bureaucracy, longer waiting lists for health care and lower reimbursements for physicians driving even more doctors out of the Commonwealth. This government-driven health care system would result in a one-size-fits-all model ignoring individual patient needs. This plan does little to lower health care costs and even less to insure vulnerable working Pennsylvanians who fear losing their health care.
"We look forward to working with the Senate on passing legislation that will benefit all 12 million Pennsylvanians. We are committed to working to deliver a consumer-driven system that will provide access to the high quality, affordable health care Pennsylvania working families and seniors need and deserve, said Boyd."
