Stuart E. “Stu” Phillips, age 73, of 135 Quaker Church Road, Christiana died Thursday morning at Lancaster General Hospital following a brief illness. He and his wife Hazel M. Stively Phillips celebrated 52 years of marriage on July 2nd. Born in Bart, he was a son of the late Burris Zel and Esther Anne Stuart Phillips. Stuart was retired from Herr’s Motor Express, Quarryville, after 40 years of service where he worked as a truck mechanic. Following retirement he worked as a mechanic for Greg Lewis. He enjoyed antique cars, and collectables, especially knives. Stuart was a man with a happy spirit, and had a great sense of humor. Surviving beside his wife are two children, Deborah M. Phillips Reed and Ricky S. Phillips, both of Christiana; a grandson Mitchell Stuart Reed; two great grandchildren Ilynd and Devon; eight siblings, Sherwood Phillips, William Phillips, Dale Phillips, Elmer Phillips, Franklin Phillips, Barbara Fisher, Turby Phillips, and T.J. Phillips. He was preceded in death by siblings Gwen Phillips and Robert Phillips and a grandson Jeremy Reed. Funeral services will be held from the Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Tuesday at 2:00PM with Pastor Jim Roland officiating. Interment will follow in Middle Octorara Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 7-9:00PM and again on Tuesday from 1:00PM until the time of service.
