Jean Toot
Jean E. Toot passed away at her home at Ware Presbyterian Village, Oxford, on Saturday morning January 19th of natural causes. She was the widow of Gordon C. Toot with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Born in Quarryville, PA she was the daughter of Dr. Richard and Adaline Paxson Edwards. Jean graduated from Quarryville High School in 1935 and Millersville State Teacher's College in 1937. She taught at Cedar Hill School in Fulton Township for two years until married teachers were not permitted to teach in Public Schools. Later she substituted in Quarryville Elementary and Oxford area schools. Jean and Gordon farmed Gordon's home farm at Lincoln University for 56 years. She was a lifetime member at Penn Hill Friends Meeting. Jean and Gordon were Members of Oxford Grange and Friendly Farmer's Club. She was also a member of Oxford Homemakers. Jean is survived by a sister, Anne wife of Howard Steinberg, Quarryville and a niece, Barbara of California. There are two nephews, Richard of NC and Roger of TX. Memorial services will be held at Penn Hill Friends Meetinghouse, 2228 Robert Fulton Highway, Wakefield, PA. on Sunday, February 3, 2008 at 2:00PM.
