Obituaries

Paul Wilkey
Paul N. Wilkey, age 96, died Friday morning (April 24, 2009) at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community where he resided since March of 2009. He was the husband of the late Phoebe Dillinger Wilkey who died June 26th 1975. Paul was born in Quarryville, a son of the late Norris and Elizabeth Kepperley Wilkey. He worked as a barber in Quarryville for 40 years and also for PP&L for 28 years. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, Strasburg and the Free and Accepted Masons, Washington Lodge # 156, Quarryville. Surviving are two nephews, William Wilkey of Lancaster and Robert Wilkey of Malvern. Funeral services will be held at the Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Tuesday, April 28th at 2:00PM with Rev. Dr. James R. Haun officiating. Interment will follow in Quarryville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00PM until the time of service. Those who desire may make contributions in Paul’s memory to Zion United Church of Christ, 900 Winter Hill Road, Strasburg, PA 17579. Marsha Hess Bitts
Marsha G. Hess Bitts, age 39, of 11 Pine Lane, Willow Street, went to be with her Lord and Savior surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 22nd after a short but courageous battle with cancer, while under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County. She and her husband Harry H. “Jake” Bitts were married 11 years. Marsha was born in Lancaster. Her mother is Jeanne L. Dishman wife of James Gehron of Willow Street and her father, Marshall C. married to Doreen Hess of Quarryville. Marsha had been employed as a bus driver for Shultz Transportation for 15 years and then worked as a patient care assistant at Lancaster General Hospital for a year. Earlier she had attended Wrightsdale Baptist Church. Marsha enjoyed spending time with her sons, family and friends. She enjoyed photography and taking pictures, spending time outdoors and on their boat, listening to country music, and NASCAR racing. Surviving beside the husband, and parents, are two sons Corey Hess and Kevin Hess both of Willow Street; two sisters, Donna married to Vito Lentini, of Harrisburg, Karen married to Rick Kauffman of New Providence; a brother Matthew Hess of Conestoga; a step sister Lori married to Dean Landis of Mechanicsburg; a step son Harry H. Bitts, V of Havelock, NC; a step daughter Michelle Bitts of Raleigh, NC; and a granddaughter Lily Bitts. Funeral services will be held from New Providence Church of God, 269 Cinder Road, New Providence, PA on Monday at 10:00AM with Pastor Lawrence Metzler officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant grove United Methodist Cemetery. Both viewings will be held from the church, on Sunday from 6:30-8:30 PM and again on Monday from 9:00AM until the time of service. Roy Eager
Roy M. Eager, 81, of 1024 Spring Valley Road, Quarryville, PA, died on, Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Grimsey Trout Eager. His first wife, Betty J. Kint Eager died in December, 1999. Roy was a self employed farmer. Following retiring from farming he had worked for Risk Construction, Quarryville. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witness, Quarryville. Roy enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Southern Lancaster Co. Farmers Sportsman Assoc. He was born in Strasburg, PA, son of the late George A. and Myrtle Shissler Eager. He is survived by his wife Mary of Quarryville, his son Mark, husband of Georgianna Eager of Quarryville, his daughter Joyce Kaplan of Lititz, 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, step daughter Jane married to Galen Trout of Quarryville, step sons Carl Groff of Mt Joy, and J. Michael married to Becky Groff of Lancaster, 6 step grandchildren 8 step great grandchildren, brother George F. Eager of Quarryville, sister Dorothy, married to Joe Leroy Hess of New Providence, brother Donald Richard married to Irene Eager of Quarryville. He was predeceased by sisters Bertha Wade, and Evelyn Lefever and brother David T. Eager. The Funeral Service will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. with Pastor Tom Lefever officiating. The burial will be in Quarryville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Reynolds Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 PM and on Thursday from 10:00 -10:30AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster PA 17604. Governor Edward G. Rendell has announced the nomination of John Quigley to be the secretary of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

SPORTS
Boys and girls in grades 4 through 6 are invited to a youth volleyball clinic to be hosted by the Solanco girls varsity volleyball team. The clinic will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. from May 26 through May 29 at Solanco High School. Tuesday through Thursday will feature demonstrations on higher-level volleyball, and an informal tournament will be held on Friday. The $20 registration is due by May 4; make checks payable to "Solanco Volleyball" and drop off at the high school office.
