Seasoned anglers as well as beginners are invited to attend a program about ice fishing at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, at PPL’s Brunner Island Environmental Preserve. Byron Eckardt, local ice fishing expert, will explore topics such as safety, equipment, fishing techniques and much more. This free program will be held in the main conference room at the Brunner Island power plant on Wago Road. Please check in at Gate A for a visitor badge. Bring a photo ID. Enjoy a program that highlights all of the birds of prey that live at PPL’s environmental preserves and power plants at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, at PPL’s Holtwood Environmental Preserve.

Lancaster County Art Association: 1 to 5 p.m. Opening reception for two exhibits: The Invitational Exhibit in the Kauffman Gallery featuring five artists: Morris Cook, Helena van Emmerick-Finn, Lauren Mulhern, Sangita C. Phadke, and Lois Schachter. The exhibit will include sculpture, watercolors, acrylic paintings, and pastels. In the Steinmetz Gallery will be the Plein Air Exhibit featuring work created by artists who attended the LCAA's 2008 Plein Air events. Refreshments will be served. Regular hours at the LCAA are Wednesday to Sunday from 1 to 5 PM. Both exhibits continue until February 12.

January 31, 2009
The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is inviting anglers and others with an interest in the management and protection of smallmouth bass in the Susquehanna River to a free public meeting on Saturday, January 31, at the River Rescue Building in Harrisburg. The meeting will touch upon subjects such as fish disease, fish population monitoring results, trends in consumptive water use and water quality trends. A question and answer session will follow the formal presentations.
