Opinions: -- Is The Southern End Ruled By Redneck Justice?

In a newspaper interview, an elected official made the statement that local police are not needed for protection, as everyone owns a gun. Sure does sound like we are living in the Wild Wild West from that statement. If a homeowner were to use a firearm in the protection of their property, they would sure be in deep do-do, as the law defines when and were deadly force can be used or applied.

I guess we can look forward to public hanging for auto theft next, as that was the sentence imposed by a property owner for stealing a horse or cow wasn’t it, or how about divorce by bullet if a wife was found to be unfaithful. How about shooting your neighbor or their children for trespassing, or how about them their ATV’s and 4-wheel drive and dirt bike’s vehicles that are driven across your land disturbing your peace

This statement by this power-to-be is unbelievable and if he really believes it, he should not run for reelection.

The present of a cop (Constable On Patrol) is to preserve peace in the communities and not just to waste taxpayer’s dollars.

With the mindset that it is up to each person to protect and preserve their own peace and property can lead to people taking the law in their own hands and no due process for the guilty.

I think its time to look at just what the elected officials are saying about things and then to choose just what type of person you want to represent you and keep track of little things that they say and do, or don’t do for that matter so as you can make an informed chose when the time comes.

Election day is coming, register to vote and get out there and vote, its your constitutional right and duty.

With all the so-called outsiders moving into the area, with them come new ways of thinking and doing. Thinks that were a way of life before, will not be acceptable like where you go to hunt or fish, ride you ATV, dirt bike or 4-wheeler and if as the elected official said, you get shot at for doing what you have always done, I can beat you will want to know where the COP’S are then.

Get out and vote, let the power-to-bees know just how you feel. It is my opinion that we don’t need an OK Corral or Hatfield’s and McCoy’s type incident here.
