How Many Lives Need To Be Lost?
Saturday, February 4, 2006, there was
another accident on Route
272 south of Mt. Airy Road, in Providence Township that resulted in two
un-necessary deaths. This stretch of road (known as Pole Cat Hollow) has claimed
many lives over the years. It was re-done several years back to supposedly
correct the problem, but in all reality has done nothing but make it worse. I
live in close proximity to this part of the road and tremble every time it
rains. I have experienced the fate of losing control of an automobile myself,
and thanks to the Lord above, no one was coming in the opposite direction to
cause an accident. I have repeatedly show accident investigators, and state
personnel many of the problems that exist with the road, but nothing has been
done but to have the road surface "rippled" in the center to make the drivers
aware that they are over the middle, but all this causes when it rains is the
tire(s) on the vehicle leave the road surface and hydroplane on the waster that
goes across the road surface like a river. I had this happen to me at 10 mph
under the speed limit and absolutely had no control of the vehicle that I was
driving. If someone cares to find out what happens, just let your vehicle hit
the "ripples" when it is raining, and get prepared for excitement. The news only
hears of the accidents involving other vehicle or ones that require police and
towing assistance, but not the many that are damaged and drive off unscathed.
This is only part of the improper condition of this roadway. I will be glad to
show anyone what was left unfinished when the road was built and again when it
was re-built, just call or stop in when I am home.
Please!!!! Let's get something done with this road.
James S Landis, Jr. of 381 Lancaster Pike, New
Providence.
