Firearms are only as dangerous as the person holding one
Like it or not....
You cannot depend upon government to protect you! The Founding Fathers understood this when they acknowledged your right to protect yourself.
It wasn't a "right" they gave you, it is one that is inalienable" and no government can take it away.
There will be those Americans who naively believe that someone else is responsible for their safety and security. They believe that by hiring a "mercenary force" (police) that they can abdicate common sense and go about with this "cloak of security" as they knowingly or unknowingly place themselves in jeopardy every day.
These same folks also believe that if they harm or threaten no one, then no one will harm or threaten them. That philosophy is simply foolish, if not dangerous.
Firearms are only as dangerous as the person holding one. The same
applies to people who operate automobiles. We drive cars because it is
a convenient way to get from one place to another. For the sake of this convenience we accept 50,000 deaths per year and millions of injuries.
Yet there is no mention of doing away with cars. Firearms on the other hand, are a significant tool with which one has a better chance of protecting oneself as opposed to no protection at all.
As I watch the preparations for the next presidential election where candidates are spending hundreds of millions of dollars just to get into the primaries, it dawned on me just how easy these same candidates can be corrupted. Does anyone really believe that the donors of these dollars expect nothing in return?
The last thing I need is a corrupt government when I'm prohibited from exercising my right to protect myself. I also believe that should some form of Draconian legislation pass, the American people will treat it the same way they treated prohibition... they will ignore it!
You may feel differently, but when I look back at the vast number of tyrants who were democratically elected in their own countries, I am apprehensive that America might suffer the same fate authored by a majority of ignorant voters.
One of the Founding Fathers said "I fear for my country if there is a just God". (paraphrased)
