PETA Warns of Bird Fly
There’s disturbing news about bird flu: A recent study led by Dr. Yoshihiro Kawaoka of the University of Wisconsin-Madison shows that the H5N1 virus has mutated and may now be able to grow in the upper respiratory tract of humans.

While people may not be able to do much about the mutation, they can help stop the spread of bird flu if they stop raising and eating animals. Chicken and turkey factory farms are so disgustingly crowded and filthy that they are perfect disease reservoirs. Laying hens are confined to battery cages stacked tier upon tier in huge warehouses. Feces from the birds on top fall on the birds below, providing ideal conditions for diseases like bird flu to spread.

According to the World Health Organization, humans can become infected with bird flu by eating undercooked infected chicken and by eating food prepared on the same cutting board as contaminated chicken or eggs. Even touching the broken eggshells of infected eggs puts consumers at risk. We can all help prevent bird flu and other foodborne illness—and save billions of animals from pain and suffering—by eating a vegan diet.
