American Coalition for Ethanol Issues statement on House energy bill passage
The American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE), the nation’s largest ethanol association with nearly 2,000 grassroots members nationwide, today issued the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives passage of an energy bill, the “Energy Independence and Security Act” by a vote of 235-181.
Brian Jennings, ACE Executive Vice President:
“The American Coalition for Ethanol applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for including in its energy bill a new, robust Renewable Fuels Standard, a national commitment to accelerate the use of renewable fuels such as ethanol and apply the brakes on our near-total dependence upon oil. With the nation consuming 145 billion gallons of gasoline annually, gas that is refined from alarmingly-expensive oil, ensuring increased access to cost-effective and homegrown ethanol is vital to the economic health of our nation.”
“Ethanol has the potential to be one of the most significant American success stories of our lifetime, with its benefits for a cleaner environment, a more robust economy, and enhanced energy security for America. But ethanol's potential will be cut dramatically short if Congress does not act now to commit to a path of renewable fuels and instead lets our nation's expensive fossil fuel habit rule the day. An expanded Renewable Fuels Standard will ensure that America is on the right energy path. We urge swift consensus and action on this matter so that Americans can have increased supply of the cost-effective ethanol they deserve at the pump.”
