Castle Doctrine
Protects You
This Tuesday, December 11, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives will be voting on House Bill 641, the "Castle Doctrine." HB 641 simply says that if a criminal breaks into your home, your occupied vehicle, or your place of business, you may presume he is there to do bodily harm and you may use any force against him, thereby removing your "duty to retreat." Furthermore, this law would provide protection from criminal prosecution and civil litigation for those who defend themselves from criminal attack.
This type of self protection laws are being consider in or have already been passed in Alabama Florida Michigan Virginia Utah Mississippi Texas and even Italy approved a castle doctrine law.
The “Stand Your Ground” law says any person “has the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm.”
The “castle doctrine” is enshrined as a sacred right in English common law. It holds that, if you’re wrongfully threatened or attacked in your home or on your premises, you have already retreated to the wall and can stand your ground and meet force with force
Your Representative needs to hear from if you would like this type of protection here in Pennsylvania as at the present time the law only permits you to use deadly force when you are in fear of you life and have no place else to run.
Call your representative and let him know how you feel, and if he can’t do anything for you, someone can be elected to replace him that can.
