PETA Sends Kudos to Fashion Giant
Dear Editor,
Kudos to Swedish fashion giant Hennes & Mauritz (H &M) for agreeing that mutilating sheep is unacceptable. The company’s decision to stop purchasing wool from sheep who have been mulesed will have a profound impact on sheep in Australia.

Mulesing is painful practice in which farmers cut skin and flesh from lambs’ backsides—without any painkillers. Its less bloodier (but just-as-painful) “alternative,” clips, grip so tightly to lambs’ rumps that they must be pried open with shears before they can be attached—also with no pain relief. Both mulesing and the use of clips cause needless and prolonged pain to lambs.

Learning that alternatives are already available, H & M made the compassionate decision not to support the cruel treatment of animals.

Sincerely,
