Readers Agree: Fire Politicians
I wholeheartedly agree!!

I have to admit that I was unaware of the ability to fire an already elected politician. Whose job is it to determine an unfit or unqualified or unsatisfactory job performed? After all, it is the people who gave them the position. This must be one of those well kept secrets. I would like to propose a Bill be written that causes Elected Officials to be held accountable for their inaction. No more worthless lip-service. If they make a promise during the campaign they should have a realistic timeline to fulfill and deliver that proposal to the people they promised it to. I can not believe the way we get lied to and still take what is said and repeat it to people we know. “oh I like ________, they have a plan to cut taxes by 24 %.” Ok.. Prove it!! Put up or shut up. Your words are empty, action is what is needed. Every election is the same nonsense, only the names have changed….. I promise Lower taxes, better education, health care and medi-care. Hello (knock knock) umm.. If every politician who said this would have delivered then the next round or group wouldn't have put it as part of their platform BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DONE!!!!!!!! This is ridiculous. Honestly, how can you believe anything said by anyone? I can’t, I try, but every year that passes, without fail there are dozens of un-kept promises. Why do we stand for this? If they work for us, then personally I believe they shouldn’t pull a paycheck any greater then the median of their people that they represent. Maybe then they would truly work for the betterment of their people, because they would be closer to them financially they could better understand the needs of the community they serve. I bet we would only get people who really believed in serving the community. There goes half the problem off the top, too many to choose from, all with big smiles, lots of handshakes and similar proposals ready to tell you what they think you want to hear. Or what their campaign manager tells them to say. Are we voting for that person? No, so why do we have to hear what he puts down on paper? This whole system has gotten so far out of hand that I don’t see a viable solution without drastic changes. The most unfortunate part is that it takes politicians to pass Bills, since this would personally attack their way of life, there would never be enough well meaning, up-standing politicians to stand behind it. This is sad in and of itself. Those who would be in fear of their career being jeopardized are the ones who we don’t want in office. I would say the punishment should fit the crime. There should be fines, un-paid leaves and in extreme cases termination. I guess this is a far off dream, to be able to believe what people say to you at face value. I still have hope though.
